After the most aggressive offseason in franchise history a year ago, the LA Chargers enter the 2023 offseason needing to save money to get under the salary cap. Los Angeles is north of the cap by over $20 million, per Over The Cap, and needs to free up around $23.4 million to be able to pay its draft class this offseason.

With that financial situation in mind, Chargers fans have started discussing the possibility of Keenan Allen being a cap casualty this offseason. Beat reporter Daniel Popper of The Athletic has added to that conversation, sharing his belief that he thinks it is more likely than not that Allen will be cut or traded this offseason.

There are several prominent reasons for the Chargers to keep Allen on the roster for the 2023 season but this is part of the business. Sometimes tough decisions have to be made and parting ways with Allen certainly is a possibility.

Other NFL players are taking notice of this possibility and have already started recruiting Allen. Four-time All-Pro Cordarrelle Patterson made his plea to the Pro Bowl receiver public as he daydreamed about the possibility of Allen in Atlanta.

The Atlanta Falcons are a great landing spot for Keenan Allen if the Chargers cut ties.

If the LA Chargers did make the unpopular decision to cut or trade Keenan Allen this offseason then the Atlanta Falcons are one of several teams who are a great fit for Allen this offseason. Whether it be via trade or free agency, Atlanta checks several boxes as an Allen suitor.

The Falcons are a team with cap space that might be one or two pieces away from making the playoffs in a pretty poor NFC South. Adding a veteran like Allen would not only help Drake London and Kyle Pitts improve as pros but would complement them on the field as well.

Atlanta should be looking to hoard offensive weapons if they are rolling with Desmond Ridder next season. Even if it is not Ridder, getting as many weapons as imperative is important as the team has a legitimate chance to win a bad division.

Hopefully it never comes to that and the Chargers save money in other ways against the cap but the Falcons are definitely a team to watch in the case that the Bolts part ways with Allen this offseason.
