The first LA Chargers injury report of the year was much different than the injury reports fans have gotten used to. Only two players occupied the injury report as the Bolts head into the season with a mostly healthy squad.

Quarterback Justin Herbert was a required addition to the injury report on Thursday morning as he recovers from the plantar fascia injury that had him in a walking boot for two weeks. However, this changed absolutely nothing about Herbert's status as he is 100% ready to go. The addition was merely procedural.

Herbert was not the only player added to the injury report on Thursday Wide receiver Joshua Palmer was also added to the report despite being a full participant in practice.

Joshua Palmer's addition to Chargers injury report isn't concerning

If Palmer was a limited participant in Thursday's practice then there would be a lot more concern around his addition to the injury report. Palmer is the only receiver who can realistically play the X in Week 1 if DJ Chark Jr. does not suit up, so not having the former Tennessee Volunteer would be an issue.

Palmer's inclusion on Thursday's injury report doesn't seem to indicate that he will miss the game. The fact he is a full participant is telling and makes this look identical to Herbert's situation.

The Chargers were essentially forced by the league to include Herbert on the injury report since it is well-known he is recovering from a foot injury. Even though he appears to be 100%, he has not returned from the injury so he has to be on the injury report.

The same could be said for Palmer, who suffered a knee injury last year and was dealing with the same knee injury during training camp. Palmer's injury wasn't broadcast as widely as Herbert's injury, but it still puts him in the same bucket as his star quarterback.

Thus, there is no real reason to worry about Palmer's status for Sunday's season opener. While the knee injury seems concerning because of his past, it does not look like it is going to have an immediate impact against the Raiders.

That being said, Palmer's knee is something for fans to monitor as the season goes along. While it might not be an issue now, the fact is flared up during training camp does open the door for more flare-ups in the regular season.
