First Chargers injury report of the 2024 season is a breath of fresh air
By Jason Reed
A bloated injury report full of several impact players has been a trend for the LA Chargers in recent years. For whatever reason, the Chargers were never able to stay healthy and it impacted the play on the field as a result.
There were some concerns that this trend would continue despite a new coaching and training staff during Chargers training camp this year. Justin Herbert was put in a walking boot, Joey Bosa broke his hand and several other Chargers would miss random practices while Jim Harbaugh would say they were "working through something".
Despite all of this, the first injury report of the year didn't end up being the disaster Chargers fans thought it was going to be. While it is far too soon for a victory parade, there were only two players listed on the Bolts injury report on Wednesday.
First Chargers injury report of the year if a breath of fresh air
There is a lot more blank space on this injury report than Chargers fans are used to seeing. The fact that the team is only dealing with two injuries to start the season is phenomenal and hopefully foreshadows what is to come in 2024.
The injuries the Chargers are dealing with are sustainable, too. DJ Chark was in the running to be the team's primary X receiver but Joshua Palmer can hold down those duties no problem.
The Chargers can roll out a starting trio of Palmer, Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston. It may not be the most impressive room, but it is not drastically altered by not having Chark.
Tarheeb Still is also a depth corner who is not projected to get much defensive playing time in his rookie season. There will likely be a special teams impact of Still not playing (if he misses the game) but it will be a minor impact on the grand scheme of things.
Most notably, Herbert is not on the injury report at all. This goes hand-in-hand with the star quarterback telling reporters he was 100% entering the 2024 season. Bosa is also not on the injury report and is no longer wearing a club on his left hand.
Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Raiders had a longer injury report that was highlighted by 2024 first-round pick Brock Bowers, who was a limited participant on Wednesday. It is unclear at this time if he will be ready to play in Week 1.
