LA Chargers add franchise left tackle in full first-round mock draft

Penei Sewell gets taken, does not fall to the LA Chargers
7. Detroit Lions: DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama
The Detroit Lions are one of the hardest teams to understand because they should be entering a rebuild of sorts but it feels like a soft rebuild as Jared Goff can be decent enough for the Lions to win 6-8 games next season.
I am not a big Jared Goff guy, but I do think he does get a bit too much hate. It is too soon to draft another quarterback and the pick I see the Lions making is the one that will sell the most tickets: drafting the Heisman Trophy winner, DeVonta Smith.
Many boards have Jaylen Waddle ahead of Smith but Smith is the bigger name and is still a bonafide WR1. He gives Jared Goff someone to throw to next season, unless Anthony Lynn only runs the ball as the offensive coordinator.
8. Carolina Panthers: Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon
The Carolina Panthers are trusting in Sam Darnold, which if I am being honest, was such a bad move. Sam Darnold is not even an upgrade from Teddy Bridgewater and they traded extra draft capital for him!
Regardless, they need someone to play left tackle and that is where Penei Sewell comes in. Sewell protects Darnold’s blindside as Joe Brady looks to build something special with this offense.
9. Denver Broncos: Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State
The Denver Broncos are looking at Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert and realize they don’t want to fall behind in the quarterback race. Drew Lock was awful last season and we are in a day in age where teams punt on quarterbacks far quicker than before.
The Broncos take the last first-round quarterback in Trey Lance to compete for the starting job and give Denver someone who its fans can get excited about.
