The Los Angeles Chargers have made it clear this offseason that they’re in the market for pass-catching help. They’ve been linked to a number of high-profile wide receivers going back to before the offseason, with recent speculation tying them to Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill.

The Chargers kicked things off by reuniting with Mike Williams, signing the veteran wideout to a one-year deal worth $3 million. Williams brings familiarity and some needed size back to the wide receiver room, but after an injury-riddled few seasons, he’s a shell of his former self.

The Chargers know they need more to build around Justin Herbert in the short term and the future. That urgency has been reflected in the rumor mill.

The Chargers were considered one of the betting favorites to land Davante Adams following his release from the New York Jets, and they’ve also been floated as a top trade destination for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Which brings us to Tyreek Hill.

Chargers should keep a close eye on Tyreek Hill trade rumors

The star Dolphins wideout has been stirring up speculation with a string of cryptic social media posts in recent days, none of them directly linked to Los Angeles, but vague enough to spark trade buzz.

Hill recently shared a vague video on social media that quickly gained traction, not because of the video itself, but due to the caption that accompanied it.

"Seeing your team may actually trade you," the star wideout wrote as he continued to fuel trade speculation. He doubled down on the social media buzz, posting a peace sign emoji on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday.

Earlier this offseason, Hill sparked speculation about his future in Miami after expressing frustration following the Dolphins' season-ending loss to the Jets. The star wide receiver hinted that he might need to “do what’s best” for himself and his family, leading to rumors that he could be looking for a fresh start elsewhere.

Hill later walked those comments back, saying he loved Miami and wanted to remain with the team. But the mixed signals didn’t go unnoticed, and his recent cryptic posts have only added fuel to the fire

The Chargers signed Williams to add to a wide receiver room that already features rookie standout Ladd McConkey and the ever-inconsistent Quentin Johnston. The team also signed veteran tight end Tyler Conklin. Still, there's a reason the Chargers are connected to every wide receiver potentially on the market.

Hill is coming off a down year in which he finished with 81 catches for 959 yards and six touchdowns. It was the first season he didn't record at least 1,000 receiving yards since 2019, and there have been signs of regression.

That said, Hill is still one of the best wide receivers in football, and his arrival would instantly transform the Chargers’ receiving corps. His speed, playmaking ability, and game-breaking presence would give Herbert the kind of weapon this offense has been sorely lacking.

Whether the Chargers have any real interest or not remains to be seen — there are obvious red flags with a hypothetical Hill trade. This is probably a situation that bears monitoring, however, as we approach the 2025 NFL Draft later this month.
