One of the more unique issues has been plaguing most of the NFL, but a solution seems to have presented itself. The Los Angeles Chargers are not alone here, as most of the second round in the 2025 NFL Draft remains unsigned. Even as training camps begin across the league, most of the second round do not have their rookie contracts.
This was spurred by the Houston Texans giving their second-round rookie, WR Jayden Higgins, a fully-guaranteed deal, the first for a second-rounder in the history of the NFL. And as you can imagine, this has forced many second-rounders to also want something similar to what Higgins got.
Well, on Wednesday, news broke that the San Francisco 49ers had agreed to terms with their own second-round pick, and this could present an obvious solution for the Los Angeles Chargers and their own discussions with Tre Harris.
Alfred Collins signed with the 49ers, which is great for the Chargers and Tre Harris
Here is how the deal looks via Adam Schefter:
The next big domino in the second round has fallen: 49ers’ second-round pick Alfred Collins, the No. 43rd overall selection, reached agreement tonight on a four-year, $10.3 million deal that includes over $9 million guaranteed and now is expected to trigger multiple second-round… pic.twitter.com/iiIWgOCh7p

Tre Harris was the 55th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, for those who may have forgotten. With this deal now done, you have to figure that the Los Angeles Chargers and the rest of the NFL with an unsigned second-rounder will now have some sort of baseline for their negotiations.
Since Harris was picked 12 selections later, it would be reasonable to say that he would not get 88% of his rookie deal guaranteed, but I guess you never know. It might make the most sense to have, let's say, 80% of the deal guaranteed. The main idea here is that the teams without contracts for their second-rounders have to get their rookies on the field, period.
The new precedent set by the Houston Texans has impacted most of the league, but Alfred Collins and the San Francisco 49ers seem to be a major fallen domino - let's hope that the Bolts can get their deal done with Tre Harris quickly.
