Should Forrest Lamp come back as a guard or tackle?

Forrest Lamp at Right Tackle

Week 1 Barksdale went down with a right knee injury and was carted off the field. After that, it was Sam Tevi-Time…. sadly.

Rivers has constantly been harassed due to the lack of talent at the right tackle position. For the Chargers to be a contender and to keep Rivers around longer, we will need a new right tackle soon, and it doesn’t look like the Chargers are signing anyone off the street, (sad to say for my Antonio Garcia hopes) so they might think that the answer is in the locker room.

Since we all know Tevi isn’t the answer, that leaves one man… Lamp. Lamp was a left tackle in college and he was a force, heck they were even calling this kid the next Zach Martin.

One of the reasons they kicked him to the inside is due to his lack of length, the same reason Martin transitioned, but his athleticism and hand usage gives him the ability to survive on the outside for the time being. Lamp is a guard, heck he can even become a Pro-Bowl caliber guard in the future and that’s where his talents are best suited, but for the time being he can step in and play right tackle until Barksdale comes back or they find a new starting right tackle.

As long as I don’t see No. 69 on the field with the starters I will be a happy camper.

My final thoughts are to keep Lamp where he will be the best and make the most impact and that is at the right guard position. Since Lamp is at the right guard position that means Michael Schofield is out, but there is a position up for grabs and Schofield knows that position all too well.

The idea is to have the best 11 men out there at all times. So I believe that the starting five linemen should be Russell Okung, Feeney, Pouncey, Lamp and Schofield. The one thing that Chargers fans can all agree upon is that Tevi shouldn’t be in the starting lineup any time soon.
