Jahleel Addae getting most starting SS reps for Chargers

facebooktwitterreddit

Jahleel Addae took most of the starting reps at strong safety on the first day of San Diego Chargers training camp.

This is Jahleel Addae’s time to shine. This will be Jahleel Addae’s opportunity to take the starting strong safety job with the San Diego Chargers and become the next big hitter at the position. The job has been passed along from player to player over the last several seasons while the free safety position has been anchored by Eric Weddle for the last 7 seasons.  Can we have any consistency back there? It sounds like Weddle will be in his last season with the team, so we could have another carousel of players looking to take over that spot while Addae anchors the strong safety spot.

Will Addae be able to lock down the position for a long long time, unlike the men that came before him? The only player that was able to hold onto the starting job for a bit was Marcus Gilchrist and the team allowed him to walk in free agency. It will be up to Addae to take it over and it will be up to him to bring the heat on the players that are coming up the middle. Addae will also have to prove that he can stay healthy. He battled through a number of injuries last season. He will have to play smart on the field.

Addae always goes all out on the field. He brings passion to the field and he is a human missile. He will make sure to put down some big hits on players if they get by him. He wants the opposing team to feel him when he is near.

Jimmy Wilson will be competing for the job in training camp, but it seems that Addae has the inside track at the moment. On the first day of camp, Addae took most of the starting reps with the first team at strong safety and should continue to get the opportunity to shine.

The competition will be fun to watch and I will be rooting for Addae to become the starter. It will be sweet to have another “hitman” starting on the defense.
