Joe Barksdale will be a candidate at right guard for Chargers

The San Diego Chargers will have a number of different players fighting for the starting job at right guard. Veteran Joe Barksdale will be one of them.

Joe Barksdale got some work at right guard for the Chargers during minicamp and will be part of the competition with Johnnie Troutman for the starting role at the position. D.J. Fluker has also seen some time at guard this season and either him or Barksdale could step in as the starter and push Troutman to the bench. Jeremiah Sirles will also be an option for the Chargers to start at the position. There is going to be a healthy competition for the starting role.

This team is looking to put the top 5 starters on the field when the season finally kicks off. With all those possibilities at the guard position, the team will likely not pursue Evan Mathis as a possibility in free agency to add onto the roster.

This team has made improvements on the line with the addition of Orlando Franklin in free agency. Chris Watt will be back from injury and the reports out of mini camp have been good. D.J. Fluker has shed some weight and is on the field ready to prove that he can lock down the right tackle spot. Joe Barksdale was added as a veteran to the team and will bring depth to the tackle spot. He also will be an option at the right guard spot.

The competition is brewing at the right guard spot. That will be the job that is up for grabs in training camp. Who will emerge as the starter when it is all said and done? Barksdale was brought onto the roster with a nice incentive to become a starter. He has some nice bonuses written in if he can take a starting role. He has to be the top candidate to take a starting role somewhere with the team.

The Chargers are going to do their best to find someone to win the job. At least it will be up for a competition. I would expect Barksdale to become a starter up front at one of the positions when training camp is all done.
