SI mock draft trades Philip Rivers to Titans

The most resent Sports Illustrated mock draft has the San Diego Chargers trading Philip Rivers to the Tennessee Titans to select Marcus Mariota.

Sports Illustrated released their most recent mock draft and they have projected that trade that has been talked about for way too long now. They have the Chargers moving up to the 2nd overall spot to take Marcus Mariota, trading away their 17th selection and Philip Rivers to get to that spot.

Here is the analysis by Don Banks:

Sometimes the speculation is right, and the dots do connect. With Philip Rivers making it clear he’s not excited about the prospect of a move to Los Angeles in 2016, and thus playing out the final year of his contract this season, there is some sound reasoning behind the notion that he could wind up in Tennessee playing for Titans’ second-year coach Ken Whisenhunt, his former Chargers offensive coordinator. In this scenario, the Titans get to move down to San Diego’s No. 17 slot and accumulate more building block players in the draft, while landing the veteran passer who can help Whisenhunt win enough games to secure his job. As for the Chargers, they make another bold move to find their QB of the future, 11 years after trading for Rivers in 2004’s first round.

I’m sure it’s true that San Diego head coach Mike McCoy and GM Tom Telesco have little enthusiasm for parting with Rivers, but that doesn’t mean you can rule it out. The big unknown for me is whether Rivers, a native of the South, will consider moving his wife and seven kids cross-country to Nashville, after sounding dubious about the idea of relocating a mere 100 miles up  I-5 to Los Angeles. Is it the move itself or the L.A. factor that Rivers isn’t high on? Anybody have any definitive word of how Rivers feels about that scenario? Because to swing the deal, the Titans are going to need Rivers happily signed to a long-term contract.

Pretty crazy how far all this Philip Rivers trade speculation has gone. There are now mock drafts from draft experts that are making this happen. They are talking about it on ESPN all the time.  The SPECULATION has taken over everyone’s minds

Could the Chargers really trade Philip Rivers to the Tennessee Titans?

YES.

Will it happen?

LIKELY NOT.

I can’t see this actually happening. The more people talk about it though, I start to think it becomes more of a reality. I believe this team is going to roll with Philip Rivers as the quarterback going into the season. Especially looking at the trade that SI is throwing out there. The Titans say that it would cost a lot to get the rights to that selection, but Philip Rivers is already a lot to give up. Adding another 1st round selection is a ton to give up for Marcus Mariota. If we throw in that 4th round selection that we always give up could be more of a possibility.
