Should the San Diego Chargers pursue Vince Wilfork?

The New England Patriots did not pick up the option on veteran nose tackle Vince Wilfork and he will be free to sign with any team. Should the San Diego Chargers be interested?

The San Diego Chargers could use help on their defensive line. Kendall Reyes should not be playing with the starters and Sean Lissemore might be more productive at end. The team has been looking for a solid nose tackle since Jamal Williams hung up his cleats, but have settled on players like Lissemore and Cam Thomas to hold down the position. When the Chargers had Aubrayo Franklin for a year, the defense had one of it’s best seasons since Jamal left town. The team needs solid play at the nose tackle position and it will allow the other players on the roster to make plays in the backfield.

One of the best in the business at holding down the middle is available if the Chargers want to pursue him. Vince Wilfork did not have his option picked up by the New England Patriots and will become a free agent for any team to sign. Should the San Diego Chargers be interested in adding the big man onto their defense? Wilfork still is a very productive player despite being 33 years old. He is coming off a Super Bowl season and could decide to hang up his cleats, but if he wants to play for another season the Chargers could use him in the middle.

If he were able to occupy some blockers in a Chargers uniform, it would make life easier for Corey Liuget, Melvin Ingram and Jerry Attaochu to make plays in the backfield. I would expect some strong seasons from each of them if Wilfork were in town. They all would get less attention up front and can make the plays on the quarterback.

What do you all think of the possibility of Vince Wilfork? Should the San Diego Chargers pursue him?
