Will Jerry Attaochu take the next step?

Jerry Attaochu is expected to come in as the starter this year for the Chargers. What are the expectations for him?

The San Diego Chargers took Jerry Attaochu in the 2nd round last season and had high expectations out of the linebacker. The team traded up in order to take him, but he was not able to stay on the field enough to give the team a good enough evaluation on him. He will get a big opportunity this season to produce. With Dwight Freeney and Jarret Johnson out of the mix, Attaochu will get the opportunity to step into the starting role.

Tom Telesco has high hopes.

“We drafted him last year for a reason, because he was an excellent pass-rusher in college,” Telesco said, via ESPN. “He’s got quickness, speed and hand use. He plays hard and he hustles. In a small amount of snaps last year he showed that. He showed it against Arizona. He showed it against Oakland. He’s shown it out on the practice field.

“If he was in this draft, we’d be heavily involved in trying to get him again. So we’re excited about him. We think he’s got a really great future as a pass-rusher for us.”

Jerry Attaochu has a lot to prove. Melvin Ingram plays opposite of Attaochu and he has a lot to prove as well. Both the starting linebackers will need to stay healthy and produce in their opportunities.

Will either of them get to double digit sacks? They both have the potential to be that type of player. They both have the ability to get in the backfield and blow up plays. They just need the health to stay on the field in order to make that happen.

Will Jerry Attaochu be able to step up this season? Will he be able to take the next step?

I believe that he will be able to make some big things happen for this team. He has a great first step off of the line and will be able to create some big plays. Attaochu should get plenty of opportunities to show his value on defense. I still believe he has a ton to prove. We will see what he has when the season starts.

How do you think Attaochu will do?
