Who are the announcers and referees for Raiders vs Chargers today?
By Jason Reed
The LA Chargers open the 2024 season on Sunday at home against the rivaled Las Vegas Raiders. Excitement around the Chargers is at an all-time high as fans eagerly wait for then first game of the Jim Harbaugh era, and a chance to stick it to the team's biggest rival.
Any game between the Chargers and Raiders is a much watch as it is bound to bring the intensity. It will also be a good litmus test for the 2024 season, as the Chargers appear to enter the season in a much better situation than the Raiders do.
The football world seems to know how intriguing this matchup is at it will be showed as the single CBS late game in many big cities across the country. In addition to that, this game is also getting two of the most recognizable names in the sport on the call.
Announcers for Raiders vs Chargers
- Network: CBS
- Play-by-play: Jim Nance
- Color commentary: Tony Romo
- Sideline reporter: Tracy Wolfson
CBS is sending out its A-team for this matchup between the Raiders and Chargers. Love the crew or hate the crew, Nance, Romo, and Wolfson make up the best trio that CBS has to offer and typically travel to the most compelling games of the week.
While there are several matchups with a higher profile in Week 1, the CBS slate of games in Week 1 is rather tough and it makes sense as to why the A-team will be in Los Angeles for Harbaugh's Chargers debut.
The other games on the slate are the New England Patriots vs Cincinnati Bengals, Arizona Cardinals vs Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans vs Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars vs Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos vs Seattle Seahawks.
The only matchup that consists of two probably playoff teams is the Jaguars and Dolphins and Florida doesn't seem to have the best market. Thus, it makes sense for CBS to appeal to the massive Raiders fanbase and all the NFL fans who want to see Harbaugh's return to the league.
Referees for Raiders vs Chargers
The head referee for the Raiders-Chargers game in Week 1 is none other than Scott Novak and is is a good thing for the Bolts. Novak and his crew called the fewest penalties in the sport last season, which helps the more talented team (in this case being the Chargers).
The rest of the crew that will be calling the game with Novak is as followed:
- Umpire: Mark Pellis
- Down Judge: Brian Sakowski
- Line Judge: Mark Stewart
- Side Judge: David Meslow
- Field Judge: Terry Brown
- Back Judge: Terrence Miles
Fun fact: Mark Stewart is a rancher, Mark Pellis is a financial advisor, Terry Brown is a court director and Terrence Miles is a quality control manager because, for some reason, NFL referees are only part-time!
