Chargers training camp has been in full swing for nearly three weeks as the team now heads into its first of three preseason games on Sunday against the LA Rams. A lot has happened in those multiple weeks, with certain players standing out and others potentially falling behind.
The biggest storylines of training camp are around position battles. Not every role on the roster is up for grabs but there are a large amount of roles, both in the starting 11 and as rotational pieces, that end up getting decided in training camp.
Some of those battles are still ongoing and will require every portion of training camp to decide. However, others have already been decided.
3 Chargers position battles that have already been decided in training camp
1. Kicker: Cameron Dicker
The Chargers had a kicking battle on their hands heading into camp as the team had the veteran Dustin Hopkins who has proven he can be reliable in this league versus the young kicker that took over for him last season and thrived, Cameron Dicker.
Dicker seemed to have an edge logistically as he is a cheaper option for the Bolts and is not coming off of an injury to his kicking leg. However, with everything Hopkins has achieved in the league, it would be silly to count him out of the running for the job.
Even before the first preseason game of the year, though, Dicker has likely won the job. Hopkins has been "dealing with something physically" and has not even been kicking in practice. Meanwhile, Dicker has made most of his kicks, earning his role as the team's primary kicker.
