It has been just over a week since Chargers training camp began to kickstart the team's 2023 journey toward a Super Bowl. And while the Bolts have not played an actual game yet, there have still been a lot of takeaways from the first week of camp.

The Bolts still have a week-plus until the team's first preseason game of the year against the LA Rams and that will be a huge opportunity for several players on the roster. There are a lot of battles going on and preseason games can be the ultimate decider.

Some players may need these preseason games to secure their spot on the depth chart because through just one week they have already seen themselves fall.

3 Chargers who are already plummeting on the depth chart:

Jalen Guyton

This is not necessarily Jalen Guyton's fault as he has done nothing wrong. Instead, he is falling victim of his own injury and the fact that he has been on the PUP list for all of camp thus far. Guyton will definitely get his shot to earn his spot back but other receivers are picking up momentum.

The receiver that Guyton has to beat out for the WR6 spot on the roster is John Hightower, who was on the practice squad last season and has really stood out thus far at camp. Hightower has a similar athletic profile as Guyton with his speed and if he continues to thrive at camp then he could usurp Guyton in the depth chart.

Guyton is the more established player, sure, but he is also coming off an ACL injury and there is no guarantee he can even be the same player. If Hightower is the better option then that is who the team has to go with.
