2. Nick Chubb

The second-round pick in 2018 for the Browns comes in at number two on our list of best running backs the Chargers will face this season. Nick Chubb is one of the quickest backs in the NFL, and his abilities are endless in a Browns offense that has it all.

Since his entrance into the league, Chubb has had three of his four seasons with 1,000 rushing yards or more (996 rushing yards in his rookie year). He looks to be selected to his fourth straight Pro Bowl and continue to grow in this new Browns offense.

The offense of Cleveland is changing seemingly every day. With Baker Mayfield dealt to the Panthers, the Browns seem to hope that Deshaun Watson can avoid suspension and play this season. If Watson can play, the skillset of him, Chubb, Kareem Hunt, and new wide receiver Amari Cooper will be one of the best in the NFL.

1. Jonathan Taylor

Jonathan Taylor had one of the most impressive seasons in 2021 as a running back in recent history. Totaling 20 touchdowns and 2,171 scrimmage yards made him an easy number one option for the Colts offense.

In just his second year in the league since being drafted in the second round out of Wisconsin, Taylor has made an immediate impact. Having 32 total touchdowns and over 3,000 yards from scrimmage entering year three makes him one of the best running backs, if not the best, in the league.

Jonathan Taylor has yet to play against the Chargers since entering the NFL, but will get a chance to do so in week 16 of the season on Monday Night Football. A matchup that could determine playoff seeding in the AFC so late in the season will be very exciting to watch regardless of fandom.

The Chargers have a tough schedule as is, and going up against superstar running backs like these will not help as they look to make a big splash in the incredibly talented AFC West, and the entire league as well.
