Chargers potentially tease uniform change during media day
By Jason Reed
The LA Chargers have long been one of the most well-dressed teams in the National Football League. When the Chargers introduced the team's newest set of uniforms back in 2020 it was a legitimate story that took the NFL world by storm.
While every other team seemed to release uniforms that fans would revolt against, the Chargers time and time again knocked it out of the park.
The Chargers have worn their current uniform combinations for four seasons now and the fanbase has been itching to see something new. Prior to last season, there was speculation that the Chargers would bring back the old navy helmets from the early 2000s, but that ultimately didn't come to fruition.
New speculation has officially begun ahead of the 2024 season and it has nothing to do with helmets. Instead, it has to do with the Chargers interestingly choosing not to feature specific uniform combinations during media day. As the "Guilty As Charged" podcast points out, the Bolts did not feature either the navy or royal blue uniforms on media day.
Chargers choose not to feature two uniform combinations during media day
The explanation could be as simple as the fact that both jerseys are alternate and are only worn once a year. The white and powder blue jerseys are worn in the other 15 games, so it makes sense for all of the media day pictures to be in one of those combinations.
However, this does still open the door for the Chargers to potentially remove one (if not both) of these alternates. Season-ticket holders were reportedly asked earlier this offseason how they would feel about the Chargers wearing a black jersey, so it is safe to say that the team is at least considering other options.
If the Chargers were to get rid of any combination it would almost certainly be replaced by a new combination. Los Angeles is not going to outright get rid of a uniform set just for the sake of it.
The team is far more incentivized to get rid of a uniform set and replace it with something else. By doing this, those who want the last chance to buy the old uniform will purchase the remaining stock. Meanwhile, it would give the team a brand-new uniform to sell to fans ahead of the 2024 season.
We are officially at the point of the offseason were we are discussing uniform combinations and when it comes to the LA Chargers, that is a pertinent conversation.
