The LA Chargers were embarrassed by the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday Night Football, suffering arguably the worst lost in franchise history at the hands of a backup quarterback. Brandon Staley's arrogant comments after the game were not enough to save him, as the Chargers fired Staley on Friday morning after the loss.

Staley is not the only one who got the boot from the franchise, as GM Tom Telesco has also been fired after a decade with the team. Since taking over as the GM in 2013, the Chargers have won just two playoff games under Telesco and never won the AFC West.

Fans have been calling for these two moves since the team blew a 27-0 lead in the AFC Wild Card Round last season. It took 13 games and one of the most embarrassing losses in franchise history, but the Chargers have finally turned a page and have entered a new era.

Dean Spanos released an official statement about the firings on Friday morning, thanking Staley and Telesco for their time with the team.

The 2024 offseason just got a lot more interesting for the LA Chargers as the team will not only be replacing a head coach but will be replacing a general manager as well. This opens several doors for the Chargers, including hiring someone to do both.

Bill Belichick has been tied to the Chargers for months now and with the Patriots reportedly already deciding to move on from him, it is not out of the realm of possibility that the Chargers would hire him to coach the team and have a say in the football operations.

Even if that does not happen, this opens the door for the Chargers to hire a GM that actually thinks with innovation and does not deploy the same strategies that have not been working for a decade. This hire is arguably more important than the head coaching hire, as it will shape the future of the franchise.

Of course, the elephant in the room is John Spanos, who remains as the President of Football Operations. John is Dean's son and doesn't really have the qualifications to have his job. But since he is related to the owner, he has a big say in the football operations.

If the Chargers cut his influence back and hire the right general manager then the team could enter one of the most successful periods in franchise history with Justin Herbert under center. They have messed up hires before, hopefully they do not do it again.
