Chargers inactives list vs Panthers: Update on Joey Bosa, Joshua Palmer, Alohi Gilman
By Jason Reed
The LA Chargers are heading into the team's Week 2 contest against the Carolina Panthers with more injuries than the team dealt with in Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders. While it has not reached panic mode yet, a longer Chargers injury report is not something fans want to see.
Thankfully, the Panthers once again look to be one of the worst teams in the league after being walloped by the New Orleans Saints in Week 1. The Chargers cannot take Carolina lightly, but if there was ever an opponent that allowed the Bolts to be cautious with injuries, it is the Panthers.
The status of multiple big-name players was left up in the air in the final Chargers injury report of the week on Friday. With kickoff right around the corner, the Chargers have finally revealed exactly who will be out of action against Carolina.
Chargers Week 2 inactives list vs Carolina Panthers:
Player | Position |
---|---|
Taylor Heinicke | QB |
Kimani Vidal | RB |
Alohi Gilman | SAF |
Tarheeb Still | CB |
Jordan McFadden | OL |
Brenden Rice | WR |
Justin Eboigbe | DL |
The Chargers were clearly playing it conservatively with the injuries on the injury report as the big-name players who were questionable entering the contest are officially active against the Panthers.
Bosa and Palmer both being active does alleviate some concerns for Chargers fans. Bosa has missed a bountiful number of games the last two seasons with injuries and Palmer has dealt with the same lingering knee issue dating back to last season.
Palmer's status specifically was up in the air as his status got worse throughout the week. However, Palmer went through warmups before the game and felt good enough to give it a go against the Panthers. His production could still be haltered, though, if he is playing through pain.
Gilman was listed as doubtful before Sunday's inactives with a knee injury. It is unclear how severe the injury is or how it will impact him moving forward. He did not practice at all for the Chargers leading into Week 2.
Hassan Haskins also made the turn from being questionable to active for the Chargers. The former Michigan Wolverine has been active over rookie Kimani Vidal because of his special teams ability. Despite having a higher offensive ceiling than Haskins, Vidal must continue to wait to make his NFL debut.
Also, Taylor Heinicke is inactive for the Chargers but has been designated as the emergency third quarterback if injuries were to happen to Justin Herbert and Easton Stick in the game. After Stick's porous preseason, it is a tad but surprising that Heinicke is the emergency third QB.
