Chargers inactives list for Week 1 game against Raiders
By Jason Reed
Eight months after the hire was made official LA Chargers fans can finally say the Jim Harbaugh era has begun. Harbaugh has already changed the culture of the organization before coaching a game and on Sunday, Harbaugh begins his second quest for the Vince Lombardi Trophy against the Las Vegas Raiders.
On paper, the Chargers should have no problem taking care of business against the Raiders on Sunday. But as the NFL reminds us every single week, anything can happen and no opponent can be taken lightly.
At the very least, the Chargers are at least fairly healthy heading into the first game of the season (which is not a feeling Chargers fans are used to). That being said, even with a healthy roster, the Bolts still need to make several players inactive in Week 1.
Chargers inactives list vs Raiders:
- Taylor Heinicke
- Kimani Vidal
- Brenden Rice
- Justin Eboigbe
- Tarheeb Still (hip)
- Jordan McFadden
Several rookie draft picks will be inactive for the Chargers in Week 1 as they were not expected to make an impact at their respective positions. This is no reason to worry, if anything, it is a good sign that the depth of the roster is in a nice play.
The most surprising inactive is Taylor Heinicke, who was brought in to be a better backup QB option than Easton Stick. Heinicke is only inactive because he needs to learn the playbook.
DJ Chark Jr. also will not be suiting up in the game as he was played on the injured reserve. The former Jaguars wide receiver has to miss a minimum of four games before he can return from injury. With the Chargers having a bye week in Week 5, if Chark is going to return, Week 6 is a strong guess as to when it will be.
Raiders inactives list vs Chargers:
- Dylan Laube
- Decamerion Richardson
- Thomas Harper
- Tommy Eichenberg
- Jackson Powers-Johnson
- Ramel Keyton
There are several Raiders draft picks who are also inactive in Week 1 against the Chargers. The most notable is Jackson Powers-Johnson, who is dealing with an illness. JPJ was regarded as the best center prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Former Charger Thomas Harper, who the Raiders claimed after he failed to make the initial 53-man roster, is also inactive for Vegas.
