After months without having LA Chargers football, fans were treated to two Chargers games in a four-day span. The Bolts opened the 2022 season with a revenge win over the Las Vegas Raiders but was unable to carry that momentum into a 2-0 start against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs are a premier team in the NFL and the Chargers, once again, took them to their absolute limit. LA was the better team for most of the game but key mistakes by the Bolts in key moments ultimately led to the Chargers' loss.
Following the game, we broke down 3 things that Chargers fans should be worried about after the loss. We are not all doom and gloom here at Bolt Beat, though, and there are plenty of things to get excited about as well.
Here are 3 promising signs that Chargers fans should be estatic about:
1. This defense is the real deal
The LA Chargers have played two teams that will almost certainly finish as top-10 offenses this season. Defensively, the Chargers shined in both of these games, proving that this is a completely new unit from the group last year that was one of the worst in the league.
Vegas scored only 19 points against the Chargers last week and turned the ball over four times. While Kansas City scored 27 points, 20 of those points were on offense and 17 of those 20 points came after should-have-been picks by the Chargers.
Of course, completing the takeaways is part of being a good defense but two of the should-have-been picks were out of the Chargers' control with a bad penalty and an interesting overturn decision. If those two picks happen and Justin Herbert doesn't throw a pick-six then we are looking at six points for the Chiefs.
