Ranking all of the Chargers picks in the 2022 NFL Draft
By Ryan Harris
1. Zion Johnson - Pick 17
Justin Herbert has to be one of the happiest people around the National Football League after this draft. From acquiring Slater and Linsley last year to now drafting Zion Johnson with their first-round selection this year, protecting their superstar quarterback is the number one goal for Tom Telesco, and rightfully so. Giving Herbert all of the time he needs to find the open receiver is going to allow this high-powered offense to be exactly that.
It is very difficult to find a problem with the selection of Zion Johnson, as he was the best guard in the draft, and Telesco did not need to trade up to get him. During press conferences, Tom Telesco stated that he would be playing guard for the Bolts this year, but that does not mean he necessarily will stay there.
Just like Salyer, Zion's versatility is one that lots of teams enjoy seeing when drafting an offensive lineman. Barring injury, Zion can be shifted to other sides of the line, depending on what needs to be addressed at the time.
In one of the deeper overall draft classes in recent history, a lot of seemingly good selections were made this year by the Chargers. In a division as talented as the AFC West, having a successful draft is vital if they are wanting to make a run for the Super Bowl this year. As the other AFC West teams had incredible drafts as well, it is going to be very exciting to see how all of these players pan out in year one.
This concludes our ranking of all eight of the LA Chargers draft picks from the 2022 NFL Draft. A plethora of exciting talent is going to be stepping foot into southern California this week, and we will be keeping up with rookie minicamp once that starts.
