Justin Herbert came out of the tunnel wearing pads and conducted a normal, full-speed workout ahead of the LA Chargers' last preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. Herbert ultimately would not play in the game but this was a welcomed sign after weeks of concern around his injured foot.

Herbert took the walking boot off before the second preseason game of the year and returned to practice the following Monday. Even with all signs being positive, Chargers fans knew better than to let their guard down as anything can happen with a plantar fascia injury.

As scary as it might be for Chargers fans to let their guard down, though, it might finally be time to do so. During the Chargers' broadcast of the final preseason game of the year, legendary quarterback Dan Fouts revealed a massive Herbert injury update straight from the horse's mouth.

Justin Herbert's injury is "no longer an issue" for the Chargers

This is the best thing Chargers fans could have possibly heard on Saturday. While Herbert was back practicing and on pace to play in Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders, there was still the lingering question of how much pain he would be in.

After, plantar fascia injuries are tricky and can linger much longer than expected. It might not have been something that was unbearable and kept Herbert off his feet but it absolutely could have impacted his play, especially considering it is his plant foot.

If this were the case, it would be the third year in a row Herbert had to play through some kind of injury that impacted his play. In 2022 it was fractured rib cartilage, in 2023 it was a fractured finger on his non-throwing hand that changed how he took snaps and handed the ball off.

A bothersome plantar fascia would have likely been just as impactful, if not more impactful, than the rib cartilage injury that obviously slowed the star Chargers' QB down. Herbert might not be the most mobile quarterback but it would have taken that aspect of his game away completely.

Thankfully, Herbert no longer appears to be in any pain and there is no reason for him to lie about that to Fouts. This truly does appear to be water under the bridge as a preseason storyline that will eventually be forgotten about.

And with this out of the way, the regular season could not come soon enough.
