Philip Rivers hasn't thrown a pass for the LA Chargers in nearly six years but he is still one of the most beloved players for the entire fanbase. The greatest quarterback in franchise history put the entire organization on his back for 15 years and is the reason why many younger fans are a fan today.

Chargers fans have kept up with Rivers in his post-playing days as he has led his high school football team to great success. His oldest son, Gunner Rivers, graduates high school in 2027 and is already getting interest from college programs (including his dad's alma mater). It's only a matter of time until another Rivers is throwing passes on a big stage.

That's not the only thing Rivers is looking forward to. During a recent conversation with Jon Gruden, Rivers quietly revealed that he is now a grandfather. His oldest daughter had a baby boy roughly one year after Rivers had his latest boy in October 2023.

Rivers excitedly told Gruden that in 16 years, they will have a son throwing a touchdown pass to a grandson in high school.

Former Chargers QB Philip Rivers announces he is a grandfather

Rivers told Gruden his grandson is six months old, meaning he was born at the tail end of 2024 (assuming the video was recorded recently). The former Chargers quarterback is only 43, so he definitely could still be coaching in his late 50s by the time his youngest son and oldest grandson are in high school.

This new addition to the Rivers family tree may be another branch of what truly could be a football dynasty. Rivers has 10 kids in total, three of which are boys. If the younger boys (and grandsons) follow in Philip and Gunner's steps, then there will be multiple generations of Rivers quarterbacks coming up the ranks.

Maybe one of the Rivers boys can follow directly in Philip Rivers' footsteps and be the heir apparent to Justin Herbert once he eventually calls it a career. Herbert has at least another 10 years in him, so it might be on one of the younger Rivers to fill those shoes.

Congratulations to Philip Rivers and the entire family on the newest addition to the family! It'll only be a matter of time until Rivers' son and grandson are dominating the high school football scene.
