More than five years after his last game in the powder blue, Philip Rivers is finally doing what fans have been waiting for: retiring as a member of the LA Chargers.
The Chargers announced that Rivers would sign a one-day contract to officially retire with the team with a tear-jerking video on social media. Every single Chargers fan should stop what they are doing to watch the announcement. Many will shed tears just like Rivers did in the video.

The Chargers did not announce a retirement ceremony or a specific date at the time of the announcement. However, there is one day on the Chargers' calendar that is so perfect it is hard to ignore.
Philip Rivers' Chargers retirement ceremony should happen in Week 13
Week 13 seems like it is an eternity from now but if Chargers fans were able to wait five years for the ceremony they should be able to wait another handful of months. The wait would certainly be worth it as Week 13 is the perfect time.
The Chargers host the Raiders that week, which has obvious meaning for Rivers. Rivers carved out a career of dominating the Raiders and is probably one of the most despised villains for Raiders fans in recent memory.
The team is also wearing the new all-navy Super Chargers uniforms that game. Those uniforms were made famous in the 90s and 2000s and Rivers plays a big role in that. With the entire gameday presentation tailored around this "Super Chargers" era, it makes sense to have Rivers' ceremony then.
Plus, the Raiders games are one of the few games where the Chargers still have a split fanbase. By having Rivers ceremony against the Raiders, it increases the chances of season ticket holders not selling their tickets to Raiders fans, and for Chargers fans to pay a premium to go see the ceremony in person.
It's the perfect time to give Rivers the send-off he deserves. And based on the tears the Chargers were able to generate with a simple video, the day of should be even more emotional.
