One of the toughest parts about the offseason for the NFL is the fact that fans are waiting for various events to happen that lead into the regular season. The biggest free agency frenzy is over, but there are still plenty of free agents that are available. Then the NFL Draft is right around the corner, but that fun and exciting event only lasts three days and then we start to go into the long stretch of waiting for the season.
The good news is that there is still some football to watch in the spring with the United Football League. It’s refreshing to know that football is taking place, and this league does have some former NFL players.
On Saturday, during the San Antonio Brahmas vs. Arlington Renegades game, history was made by a former NFL player who had a brief stop with the Chargers back in 2020.
Former Chargers RB Kalen Ballage makes UFL history
The Renegades destroyed the Brahmas 33-9 and it was running back Kalen Ballage who had the biggest highlight of the game. Midway through the second quarter, where Arlington was leading only 8-3, Ballage took a simple handoff out of the backfield and ran it 77 yards for a touchdown, making it the longest run in UFL history.

Ballage’s run sparked a big run that the Renegades went on and helped them secure the Saturday victory. He finished with 110 yards on the ground off of 9 carries and that one touchdown.
It’s great to see Ballage having some success and recognition in the UFL and now he is in the history books for the league. He would only spend four seasons in the NFL from 2018-2021 and he spent time with four different teams. Drafted in the 4th round by the Miami Dolphins, Ballage only spent two years with the Dolphins before being let go prior to the 2020 season.
Ballage then stayed in the AFC East to join the New York Jets but only played in three games before being released. After his release, Ballage was signed to the Chargers’ practice squad and was eventually elevated to the active roster where he played in eight games, starting in two of them.
Believe it or not, Ballage had a little bit of success with the Chargers. He rushed for 290 yards and three touchdowns off of 88 carries. This would be the most involvement he had in an NFL offense in his NFL tenure.
After a short stint with the Chargers, Ballage signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers and was on the roster throughout the entire season, but only rushed for 36 yards.
