Rosters are starting to take shape as we barrel closer to the 2025 NFL season and as such, the NFL trade block is starting to form as well. Only one name was included on the LA Chargers' projected trade block and it was the most predictable name possible: Ja'Sir Taylor.
The team over at NFL Trade Rumors compiled a list of potential players who could be on the trade block and Taylor was the lone representative on the Chargers. This checks out, as the writing has been on the wall for Taylor's Chargers tenure to end for some time now.
It would be a genuine surprise if Taylor is on the Chargers' 53-man roster as the calendar turns to September. There is just one problem with potentially trading him, though: another team would have to give up draft capital for him.
Chargers will have a hard time ever trading Ja'Sir Taylor
The Chargers will struggle to strike a trade for Ja'Sir Taylor for all the same reasons he isn't projected to make the 53-man roster. Taylor simply has not been good to this point in his career and every other team in the league also sees that.
It's one thing when a team is trading out of an area of strength. If the Chargers really wanted to, they could trade Alohi Gilman for a draft pick because Gilman is valuable and the Chargers have safety depth. Obviously, the team is not going to do that, but that is a great example of a viable trade scenario.
Taylor is on the opposite end of the spectrum. The cornerback position is pretty wide-open on the Chargers so the fact he is not in line to make the roster speaks to how he is playing. Why would any other team in the league offer legitimate draft capital to secure his services?
Any sensible team will just wait for him to hit waivers and sign him to the active roster if they are high on his potential. Even that is unlikely, though, as Taylor may just end up on the Chargers (or another team's) practice squad.
So sure, on paper, Taylor is someone on the trade block and that shouldn't be a surprise whatsoever to Chargers fans. But for a trade to happen there has to be another party that is interested. It is hard to imagine that existing for Taylor.
