Jim Harbaugh could give up on a Chargers' pick too soon (and he’d be wrong)

Would Jim Harbaugh be making the right decision here?

The Los Angeles Chargers have to figure out a long-term solution at wide receiver, and this could force them to make a bold and perhaps unpopular move. We have already seen Mike Williams retire and the contract standoff with second-round rookies impact Tre Harris, so it's safe to say the momentum is trending in the right direction thus far.

It's honestly been yers since the Chargers have fielded a consistent, top-to-bottom unit, so some have argued that QB Justin Herbert has gotten the bad end of the stick and is the one doing the heavy-lifting on offense.

LA did grab two wide receivers in the 2025 NFL Draft in Tre Harris and KeAndre Lambert-Smith, and those additions could end up spelling disaster for a certain WR buried in the depth chart.

Brenden Rice might be the odd man out in the Chargers' WR room

The seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft is the son of Jerry Rice, arguably the greatest NFL player of all time. Rice played in just three games in 2024 and totaled just 13 snaps in his rookie season.

Furthermore, the Bolts have Jalen Reagor in the WR room as well, so you have to wonder if Jim Harbaugh and the offensive coaching staff would not only choose Reagor's experience over Rice, but also choose the higher-upside rookies over Rice as well.

This might not sit well with Chargers fans - after all, they do have a 'Rice' at wide receiver, and the name alone might be enough for fans to want him to stick around for another year. Brenden Rice is also 6'3" and 210 pounds, so he's got a sizeable advantage over defensive backs.

Depending on who you ask, the Los Angeles Chargers parting with Brenden Rice this offseason might end up being the wrong move, but we can all agree that the team has to find some long-term stability at this key position.
