It's not even training camp and the Raiders have already given up on a QB

With Chargers ties nonetheless!

The Las Vegas Raiders' revolving door of quarterbacks has been a point of interest for LA Chargers fans. After all, the more the Raiders cycle through quarterbacks the longer they remain irrelevant in the big picture.

The new-look Raiders, led by Pete Carroll, wasted no time making a quarterback move ahead of the 2025 season. Las Vegas waived backup quarterback Carter Bradley days before the team reports to training camp in Las Vegas.

Raiders waive quarterback who has ties to the Chargers of old

Funny enough, Bradley has ties to someone who Chargers fans know all too well. Bradley is the son of former Chargers defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, who became the Raiders defensive coordinator after being fired by the Chargers.

Gus Bradley was no longer with the team when the Raiders initially brought his son in. Las Vegas signed Bradley as an undrafted free agent in 2024 and he spent the season on the practice squad. Clearly, he did not show enough to convince Carroll to keep him around.

It's important to note who was calling the shots when Bradley was signed. Former Chargers GM Tom Telesco was the Raiders GM when Vegas signed Bradley. Perhaps the entire move was based on a favor from Telesco to someone who was a coordinator under him in Los Angeles.

Bradley was never going to be a factor for the Raiders in 2025. Without him, the team is looking at a QB depth chart of Geno Smith, Aidan O'Connell, and 2025 draft pick Cam Miller. If all goes the Raiders' way, Smith will be the only one who plays a snap.

That being said, Chargers fans already know how this goes. Releasing Bradley could just be an omen for what is to come throughout the 2025 season. Quarterback isn't an area the Raiders have had a lot of success in, and until they prove otherwise, that is kind of the expectation for rival fans.

Smith was great on the Seattle Seahawks and was an awesome feel-good story. He is also in his 30s and has already shown signs of regression. The quarterback position might not be as solved as Raiders fans like to think, and Bradley could be the first of several dominoes to fall.

Who knows, maybe Bradley is simply paving the way for the other quarterbacks on the depth chart to eventually leave the team as well. Knowing the Raiders, the QB room could be completely different a year from today.
