Much like a child's wish list to Santa with in December, LA Chargers fans are starting to compile a list of players they would like to see the Bolts pursue ahead of the NFL trade deadline. Firmly on that list is New York Jets running back Breece Hall.
The need for a running back emerged after Omarion Hampton was placed on IR with an ankle injury. Both Hampton and Najee Harris are on IR, leaving the Chargers to turn to the likes of Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins.
Vidal was impressive in his first game as the lead back for the Bolts but fans still want to see more talent on the roster. Hall, who plays on the winless New York Jets, has been viewed by many as a pipe-dream trade target for the Bolts. Fans who have this pipe dream will certainly be happy, as Hall is seemingly already laying the groundwork to be dealt.
Hall posted a collection of photos on Instagram that included a very cryptic hashtag, "Free 20". The Jets running back, of course, wears No. 20.
It sounds like Breece Hall just demanded a trade, and the Chargers could be interested
It was previously reported that the Chargers were calling around the NFL to survey the running back trade market after Hampton's injury. These reports came out before Vidal's big game in Miami, though, so it's unclear how that performance may have changed things.
Hall's Instagram post feels like a not-so-subtle call for help with many fans hoping the Chargers answer on the other line. However, there are several factors that may work against the Bolts' favor when it comes to a Hall trade.
First is the fact that the Chargers already made a draft. Los Angeles traded draft capital and Alohi Gilman for edge rusher Odafe Oweh. With five picks in the 2026 NFL Draft and no projected compensatory picks, it's hard to imagine the Chargers trading more draft capital.
Especially when that draft capital has to be a fourth-round pick or higher.
The severity of Hampton's injury also plays a role. While it now appears that the running back will be out for more than four weeks, this is not a season-ending injury. It seems even less likely the Chargers would trade valuable draft capital for someone who would turn into a 1B once Hampton is healthy, whether that be in five weeks or seven.
Plus, there are desperate teams with draft capital that may outbid the Chargers anyway. The Kansas City Chiefs, unfortunately, look like the perfect destination for Hall on paper. Kansas City should be much more likely to trade draft capital of Hall, lowering the Chargers' chances.
So while yes, it does look like Hall just demanded a trade from the Jets, his odds of becoming a Charger have stayed the same.
