It's been an unrelenting wave of injuries at the running back position for the Chargers. First, Najee Harris tore his Achilles in Week 3 against the Broncos. Omarion Hampton then injured his ankle in last week's loss to the Commanders. Hampton will miss at least the teams' next four games, including tomorrow's contest vs. Miami.
The Chargers' three running backs on the active gameday roster tomorrow will be Hassan Haskins, Kimani Vidal, and Nyheim Miller-Hines. Miller-Hines was promoted from the practice squad earlier this afternoon. It goes without saying that the Chargers are without a doubt the most injured team at the position.
The Chargers are looking to trade for a running back, per new reports.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo released a new trade deadline report today that says the Chargers are indeed in the market for a running back:
"The Los Angeles Chargers placed a second running back on injured reserve this past week, and that position is expected to be a focus for them with the Nov. 4 trade deadline less than a month away. The Chargers have been calling teams for running back help, canvassing the league for either a depth piece or a starter, sources say."
The report mentions Saints RB Alvin Kamara and Jets RB Breece Hall as names that will garner interest around the league. Both running backs reportedly want to stay in their current sports.
Earlier this week, I wrote about some possible trade options for the Chargers including Texans RB Dameon Pierce, Browns RB Jerome Ford, and Ravens RB Keaton Mitchell. These names are obviously below the RB1 tier unlike Hall and Kamara, but are much more cost effective from a draft capital perspective.
Kyren Williams just got extended with the Rams and they recently drafted Jarquez Hunter: could a name like former Michigan RB Blake Corum be on the trade block? Tony Pollard, Tyler Allgeier, and Jaylen Wright also stand out as possible names that could be moved at the deadline.
Prior to any deadline discussions, the Chargers will get to see what they have out of their top tandem tomorrow in Haskins and Vidal. Los Angeles kicks off against Miami at 10AM PT from Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday.
