Compelling trade targets who simply make too much sense for the Chargers

The LA Chargers have a potential playoff team that needs reinforcements. Thankfully, the Chargers also now have a general manager who is not afraid to make moves, as evident by the two trades Joe Hortiz made at the start of the 2024 season.

With several areas of the roster that could use a boost, there are several players who may be on the trade block that make perfect sense for the Bolts.

4 trade targets who make too much sense for the Chargers:

Mike Williams

Let's start with the obvious, shall we?

Mike Williams' future has become one of the biggest storylines in the NFL. Williams was publicly thrown under the bus by Aaron Rodgers and no longer seems to have a place on the team after the Jets traded for Davante Adams.

At this point, it makes much more sense for the two parties to separate rather than keep Williams in New York to be the WR4. New York can recoup some draft capital and Williams can go to a team where he can produce and increase his free-agency value.

Williams may not be the same receiver he was even two years ago for the Chargers, but he is a familiar face who Herbert is comfortable throwing the ball to. With no real X receiver on the Chargers, Williams would fit in nicely.

Emmanuel Ogbah

The Chargers' front seven has been a real strength for the team thus far this season. As good as it looks on paper, though, it could be even better and this truly could be a case of a team leaning into its strengths.

Obgah would not come in and reinvent the wheel in Los Angeles but he would provide yet another depth option for a position group that has uncertainty. Joey Bosa cannot stay healthy and at his age, the Chargers need to be doing everything possible to support Khalil Mack.

Ogbah can play on both the outside and the inside and would simply give defensive coordinator Jesse Minter another tool in the shed. Obgah is on a cheap one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins, who may soon become sellers as the season is not going as planned.

Josh Uche

It makes sense for the Chargers to trade for Josh Uche for all the same reasons it makes sense to trade for Ogbah. Uche may not bring the positional versatility Ogbah does, but he has a higher ceiling as a rotational edge rusher who can get to the quarterback.

The New England Patriots are not going anywhere and after a year-plus of trade speculation, it would not be surprising to see the team ship Uche off before the trade deadline. If so, the Chargers are a logical team that can continue to build on its strengths.

Tommy Tremble

It does not feel like long ago when Chargers fans were clamoring for the team to take Tommy Tremble in the 2021 NFL Draft. Fast forward four years later and Tremble has not lived up to the hype with the Carolina Panthers, but the potential is still there.

If you take one look at Tremble's receiving stats then you will may not think he is a smart trade option. However, his stats do not tell the entire story as despite the lack of receiving production, Tremble still brings a lot of value as a blocking tight end.

Tight end is one of the thinnest positions on the roster and it looks even worse with Hayden Hurst's injury. If there was ever a time to buy low on a former touted draft prospect who is in the last year of his rookie deal, it is now.

For obvious reasons, the Panthers should take anything they can get for players they don't plan on keeping after 2024.
