3 Chargers players who (maybe) won’t make the 53-man roster in 2025

The Los Angeles Chargers are well-coached and have a good roster. If the Kansas City Chiefs begin to regress a bit, the team could challenge for the AFC West title. Eventually, that will happen, right?

But while LA has good talent, a lot of it is top-heavy. Certain positions do not have quality depth. The issues will have to be corrected by smart choices in the 2025 NFL draft.

The three players below could be losers from the draft picks, though. A good player added might push them clearly off the roster. This is good for the team, of course, but Chargers fans might need to be ready to tell these guys goodbye.

These three Chargers might not make the 53-man roster in 2025

Wide receiver Jalen Reagor

The Los Angeles Chargers need to find some help at wide receiver. Ladd McConkey is great, but after that, everything is a question mark. Reagor is still on the Chargers roster, and Los Angeles is his fourth team in five seasons, but the question should be asked, "Why?" He doesn't play special teams, and he offers little as a receiver.

He is not expensive, so possibly that is why he wasn't released. However, he is simply taking up a roster spot that someone else should have. He did have seven catches in 2024, but on 12 targets. Surely, LA will take a receiver or two in the 2025 NFL draft, which should push Reagor off the roster. He is more of a fit on a practice squad somewhere than on an active roster.

Safety Tony Jefferson

Jefferson was a free agent whom the Chargers re-signed this offseason. The 33-year-old returned to the NFL in 2024 after he retired for a season and worked with the Baltimore Ravens as a scouting intern. His future likely lies with working with some NFL organization for many years, but his place on the Chargers' depth chart should be questioned.

He is a solid player, but LA must get younger at the position, at least regarding quality depth. The good part is that Jefferson is not taking up much cap room, but assuming the team takes a defensive back in the draft, this could mean Jefferson has no roster spot. Who knows? Maybe the team could hold onto him and have him work with the scouts or coaching staff.

Running back Hassan Haskins

The Chargers' running back room will rise and fall based on the productivity of free-agent acquisition Najee Harris. The good part is that in four seasons in the NFL, Harris has never missed a game, and each year he has run for over 1,000 yards. That is the good part. The bad news is that the team does not have much depth behind him.

Haskins has been in the league since 2022, and he plays decently well on special teams. However, he is not productive as a running back. He has rushed 59 times but has averaged only 3.1 yards per attempt. He is a capable receiver, but only in limited reps.

Harris was only signed to a one-year deal, which implies the Chargers will likely draft a running back or two. If that happens, Harris could be RB1, and his backups could be rookies. Haskins would be off the team.
