The Los Angeles Chargers might be forced to do some offensive line reshuffling after the brutal Rashawn Slater update. Everyone has seen the injury to Rashawn Slater at this point, and in the same offseason that the Chargers brought back Keenan Allen and extended Slater, their franchise LT goes down.
Well, the Chargers could still rebound from this, as this likely means that Joe Alt moves to the LT side and Trey Pipkins takes over at RT. This could be a fine solution for most NFL teams, as Alt can be a great left tackle, and there are worse tackles than Trey Pipkins, believe it or not.
However, the Chargers should now finally get serious about fixing their interior offensive line. What could have been the best tackle duo in the NFL is now gone, so perhaps adding some more reliable players along the interior could stabilize things.
LA Chargers should consider testing the free agent market for some OL help
Two names that immediately come to mind would be Dalton Risner and Brandon Scherff. Both are veterans with a ton of experience but are both somehow still on the market. Scherff is a Pro Bowl-caliber player who did not miss a start over the last three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Dalton Risner has been in the NFL since 2019 and has turned into a relatively average guard, but both players could be better than who LA has on the interior currently. The center market is a bit bare, but someone like Nick Harris or Wesley French might be worthwhile additions at this point in free agency.
When you think about it - the Chargers' not having as much security with their tackle duo at this point should absolutely force them to look to the free agency market. With it being this close to the start of the 2025 NFL Season, no solution is going to be perfect, but this might be the best path forward for the franchise at the moment.
