Chargers host four prospects on visits (including a surprising first-round WR)

Top 30 visits are underway for the Chargers in the last month of draft prep.

The Chargers have started conducting top-30 visits with some of the 2026 draft prospects. Historically, Joe Hortiz and Jim Harbaugh have used top-30 visits to get to know the player better if they have questions.

Checking a player's medicals and evaluating their character are two key parts of it. At his press conference before the draft last year, Hortiz used Joe Alt as an example of a player who didn't come on a visit because they didn't need him to.

So does a top-30 visit mean a player is getting drafted by that team? No, but it means the Chargers want more information. Linebacker Junior Colson is the only top-30 visit player the Chargers drafted under Hortiz back in 2024. But the information obtained is also useful outside of strictly the players that were drafted. Current Packers tight end McCallan Castles signed with the Chargers' practice squad in the 2024 season after going undrafted. He was one of the team's 30 visits that year.

So in short-file draft visits away for later but don't think too much of them. The Chargers have had four of their meetings reported on so far:

Chargers host first quartet of visits ahead of the NFL Draft

Georgia TE Oscar Delp, Georgia CB Daylen Everette, and LSU LB Harold Perkins Jr. are all late day two, early day 3 prospects that the Chargers are doing their homework on. Delp and Perkins tested very well at their respective pro days.

KC Concepcion is obviously in a bit of a different category. Concepcion had 919 yards and nine receiving touchdowns at Texas A&M this year in their run that resulted in a CFP berth. Along with names like Denzel Boston and Omar Cooper Jr., the Chargers would have to take Concepcion in the first round if they wanted him in the draft. Considering the lack of movement at EDGE and guard in free agency, some of the fanbase would feel hesitant about that investment.

The purpose of Concepcion's visit is likely a medical evaluation to some extent. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported a few weeks ago that Concepcion underwent "routine" arthroscopic scope on his knee. Garafolo reported that Concepcion is likely to be ready for rookie minicamp.

If you're trying to peg one of the first-round receivers down as a Mike McDaniel weapon specifically based on his NFL history, Concepcion is probably the cleanest fit ideologically. Despite his smaller stature, Concepcion has true field-stretching ability and explosive speed. He also has slot and outside versatility.

It's hard to see the Chargers going wide receiver in round one based on how free agency has gone, but BPA might be BPA. In his first two drafts, Hortiz kept very close to the value on the consensus boards in the first round.

Joe Alt was seventh and was picked at No. 5 in 2024. In 2025, Omarion Hampton was 22nd on the consensus board and picked at No. 22. Concepcion is currently 30th on the consensus board.
