Chargers have already caught their biggest scheduling break of the offseason

The Chargers catch a huge break in terms of 2026 travel in contrast with their 2025 campaign.

Last season, the Chargers opened the season vs. the Chiefs in Brazil. While they won the game and it was a huge momentum shift towards their 3-0 start, they did face quite the travel burden as a result of losing one home game. Los Angeles led the league in miles traveled last season at just over 37,000. The next closest team was the Rams over 34,000.

This year, the Chargers received some relatively good news as far as traveling overseas is concerned. Los Angeles will not play an international game this season. They are not on the docket for the leagues' nine overseas games this season. For at least one year, the Chargers don't have to think about travel logistics to Brazil or Australia. The full slate of NFL international games in 2026:

The Chargers will still fly a decent amount of miles in 2026, but their total travel burden has been reduced.

Now the Chargers will still rack up flying miles as a result of playing on the west coast. They rank 7th in the NFL based on their 2026 home/away opponents on the schedule. But, their total miles traveled for the season is down by over 12,000 from year to year. The Chargers will travel just 24.8K miles this year compared to the aforementioned 37,086 from last season.

One key scheduling break that also reduces the Chargers' travel burden is an away game vs. the Rams. While every AFC team has nine road games this season, it's worth noting that one of the Chargers' road games will be at SoFi Stadium. An effective ninth home game likely did wonders for travel compared to previous seasons.

Not traveling abroad also saves the Chargers from some of the logistical headaches of scheduling. The Chargers went on the road for three of their first four games last season because a Chris Brown concert was at SoFi Stadium during Week 2. In a four week stretch, the Chargers had an East-Coast road trip to play the Giants in New Jersey on top of the Brazil game.

We'll see how the Chargers end up doing this season, but less travel burden and a road game at SoFi Stadium is a massive plus for the team. Roger Goodell and the league office were much nicer to the Chargers from a logistics standpoint this season.

The full Chargers schedule comes out at 8PM ET/5PM PT.
