The honeymoon had to end eventually. It always does. After a 3-0 start with three straight wins over division opponents, the LA Chargers dropped the stinker of all stinkers in a 21-18 loss to the New York Giants.

A lot went wrong for the Chargers in the game but the primary takeaway was simple: this offensive line is legitimately concerning. An already banged-up offensive line lost Joe Alt in the first half and couldn't survive without him. Justin Herbert was under duress all game.

In a much more somber press conference than the first three weeks, head coach Jim Harbaugh was asked about his offense's performance, and in particular, how he felt the offensive line did. Harbaugh said the quiet part out loud, echoing what Chargers fans were yelling on social media throughout the game.

Jim Harbaugh is concerned with how the Chargers' offensive line played

Umm... ya think?

This is the offensive line from years past that has haunted Chargers fans in their sleep. Fans are all-too-familiar with the game that was played on Sunday; Herbert was pressured at an absurd rate and the offense never could get going.

To be fair, it's hard for any offensive line to succeed when it is down three starters, two of which are All-Pro-caliber tackles. It makes it even worse when the only two starters left are the two starters who fans wanted to replace after last season.

That being said, the Chargers could have done more to add offensive line depth this offseason. The team still would have struggled mightily to replace Alt and Rashawn Slater, but it could have built up better depth to at least stay afloat.

The question now becomes whether or not this concern will actually result in any tangible moves. The same concern should have existed in the offseason and nothing was done about it. Now, with this game in the rearview mirror, will the Chargers be more aggressive in finding external help?

Alt will likely miss a few weeks. It's unclear how long Becton will be out due to the variability of concussions. The Chargers won't find anyone who can replicate what those two do. But they can find someone who is better than Austin Deculus or Jamaree Salyer.

The Chargers have a legitimate Super Bowl ceiling. One ugly loss to the Giants does not change that fact. However, the Chargers will never reach that ceiling if they don't commit to fixing the biggest issue on the team.
