The LA Chargers made a move many fans saw coming earlier this week by cutting veteran edge rusher Joey Bosa. As great as Bosa has been in his Chargers career, his mediocre play and injury concerns did not warrant his hefty price tag.

Chargers fans now await the news on Khalil Mack's future. Mack is a free agent for the first time in his career and fans are desperate for his return. Thankfully for those fans, the Chargers being so quick to cut Bosa may be a telling sign that Mack will return.

Mack might not be the only Chargers edge rusher who is returning this offseason. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the door is not closed on Bosa returning to the Chargers despite being cut by the team this week.

Ian Rapoport suggests Joey Bosa could return to the Chargers

Rapoport mentioned Bosa could theoretically return to the Chargers on a cheaper deal but that is far from a guarantee. The San Francisco 49ers are a logical landing spot for Bosa because of his brother, which may keep any kind of Chargers reunion from happening.

It is perfectly legal for the Chargers to re-sign Bosa after cutting him loose this week. The Chargers saved over $25 million in cap space by cutting him, and theoretically, they could bring him back for much cheaper than that $25 million number. The team would get to retain Bosa while saving money in the process.

After all, general manager Joe Hortiz did say last week he would like to aid in Bosa's desire to retire a Charger.

Just because it is technically possible and the door isn't not closed does not mean it is going to happen. After all, there could be some ill will on Bosa's side with the Chargers cutting him after he agreed to take a pay cut last offseason.

Chargers fans were sold a similar story last offseason as well. There was heavy speculation that Mike Williams could re-sign with the Chargers after being a cap casualty himself. That ultimately did not happen with Williams signing a one-year deal with the New York Jets.

The same fate awaits Bosa. Unless his market is drier than the Sahara, it seems extremely unlikely he would swallow his pride and re-sign with the team that just cut him to save money. Bosa already did the Bolts a favor last offseason and he has no reason to do it again this offseason.

If Joey Bosa somehow ends up a member of the LA Chargers next season then it will be one of the most confusing developments in recent team history.
