The LA Chargers are still hard at work at building their roster even following the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft. A flurry of new undrafted free agents have already been signed in addition to their nine draft selections. On top of that, invites are starting to be sent out to other undrafted players for rookie minicamp.

Utah State QB Spencer Petras, Maryland OG Isaac Bunyun, Mississippi State C Ethan Miner, South Carolina EDGE Gilber Edmond, and TCU LB Johnny Hodges were invited to try out at rookie minicamp for the Chargers. Reportedly, a player with a rather familiar last name will also be joining that group.

Utah S Alaka'i Gilman has reportedly received an invite to rookie minicamp tryouts. He is indeed the younger brother of Chargers S Alohi Gilman.

Gilman played three seasons at Stanford before transferring to Utah for his final collegiate season. Across his four seasons in college, he had 121 tackles, 42 run stops, three interceptions, and two PBUs.

The younger Gilman brother was ranked at #1622 on the compiled big board from Alex Katson. Gilman ranked as the 91st safety in this year's draft class in Dane Brugler's "The Beast".

Ultimately, he'll probably face relatively long odds to make either the roster or practice squad with Los Angeles. The Chargers just took two safeties in the draft with R.J. Mickens and Trikweze Bridges. Considering Derwin James, Alohi Gilman, Elijah Molden, and Tony Jefferson are all still on the roster in addition to those two new draft selections, there simply isn't much room for an undrafted safety.

Virginia Tech safety Jaylen Jones was given an undrafted free agent contract on the main roster.

Ultimately, it can't hurt to give Gilman product a tryout. If anything, it could be useful for future purposes as the Chargers get information for future signings and waiver wire transactions amongst the undrafted class that comes into the NFL this year.
