Even in a week where the Dallas Cowboys hired the most disappointing head coach imaginable, the story of the NFL world was the Jacksonville Jaguars' head coaching saga with now-former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator, Liam Coen. And while the LA Chargers weren't directly involved, they could end up worse for wear because of it.

Coen originally agreed to return to the Buccaneers with Tampa Bay offering a lucrative offensive coordinator contract. The Jaguars then fired controversial GM Trent Baalke, which foreshadowed Coen's change of heart that led him to Jacksonville.

Now the Buccaneers are left looking to replace Coen a year after the team lost Dave Canales to a head coaching job. Among the candidates is Chargers passing game coordinator Marcus Brady, who officially interviewed with the Buccaneers on Saturday.

Chargers could lose Marcus Brady to Buccaneers after Liam Coen saga

Brady played an important role in the Chargers' passing offense in 2024 and obviously did enough to earn the attention of other teams in the league. New England also interviewed Brady for its offensive coordinator vacancy before ultimately reuniting with Josh McDaniels.

The Chargers hired Brady to be part of Jim Harbaugh's staff last offseason and fans were thrilled with the experience he was bringing to Los Angeles. Prior to his stint with the Chargers, Brady spent two years with the Philadelphia Eagles and was the offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts in 2020 and 2021.

Brady's joined the Eagles after his Colts tenure because of his ties to head coach Nick Sirianni. Sirianni may also be looking for a new offensive coordinator this offseason with former Chargers offensive coordinator Kellen Moore receiving head coach buzz.

If Moore gets a head coach job then Brady may be on the shortlist of Eagles targets. Knowing that, the Buccaneers could act fast to hire Brady if he is the most qualified candidate for the job.

If the Chargers lost Moore then quarterbacks coach Shane Day would be the internal favorite to replace him as passing game coordinator. Former Chargers quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton could also potentially be brought in. Hamilton had a good rapport with quarterback Justin Herbert, and theoretically could be the new quarterbacks coach if Day were to be promoted.

Either way, the Chargers may end up making coaching changes this offseason despite Harbaugh's expectation to remain stagnant this offseason.
