The LA Chargers were fairly active in bringing back most of the team's impact free agents early in the free agency window. While there were some standouts who ultimately left the team, it became clear early on who the Chargers prioritized to bring back.

Not every big-name player was a priority, though, as several notable Chargers are still without a job a week into free agency. One of the most prominent names on that list is running back J.K. Dobbins, who was the engine of the Chargers' offense last season.

The Chargers made it clear early on that Dobbins would not be brought back as the team's RB1. Los Angeles signed Najee Harris, who will assume RB1 duties next season. While Dobbins could theoretically return as part of a committee, it appears both sides are interested in other possibilities.

Unfortunately for the Chargers, the other possibility for Dobbins could be one of the worst teams imaginable. The Denver Broncos have emerged as a team that makes a lot of sense for Dobbins in free agency with Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report going as far as to name the Broncos as his best fit.

It doesn't stop there, though, as Knox listed another team as a great fit for Dobbins: the Las Vegas Raiders.

J.K. Dobbins may leave the Chargers for the worst team possible

It doesn't really matter if it's the Broncos or the Raiders. Either team would be a tough pill to swallow for Chargers fans, who really grew to love Dobbins in 2024.

MUST-READ: Grading every Chargers signing this offseason

Denver is the bigger threat in the AFC West after making the playoffs last season and having a big offseason. The Broncos loaded up on talent to support quarterback Bo Nix and adding Dobbins would only help those efforts.

Javonte Williams left Denver to sign with the Dallas Cowboys in free agency. Dobbins could very well be an upgrade over Williams and would be a perfect running back to pair with Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime.

The Raiders are less of a threat in the AFC West but have a bigger opportunity for Dobbins. Las Vegas recently bolsted the running back room with Raheem Mostert but that won't stop the team from adding another back. Dobbins has a clear path to be the RB1 in Las Vegas.

Seeing Dobbins stick around in the AFC West to compete against the Chargers would be less than ideal. Not only would a fan favorite leave for a rival, but a division foe would be getting an impact back who can raise the ceiling of the offense.
