3 winners (and 3 losers) from Chargers' 2025 preseason

The Los Angeles Chargers were gifted with four opportunities to play football games this preseason. In those four contests, head coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Joe Hortiz learned a lot about their football team.

With the preseason now in the rearview and roster cuts on the horizon, it's time to take a look at whose stock went up and whose stock went down this month. Here are the Chargers' biggest winners and losers from the entire preseason.

5 Winners and losers from Chargers' 2025 preseason

Winners

1. Trey Lance, QB

Lance is an obvious winner. Not only did he demonstrate that he has improved as a passer, but his running ability was also on full display. When combined with the fact that fellow backup Taylor Heinicke was arguably the biggest loser of the preseason, Lance might be No. 2 on the depth chart.

2. Caleb Murphy, EDGE

Murphy actually played so well this preseason that Los Angeles may be forced to carry a fifth edge rusher. He recorded two sacks, a forced fumble, three hurries and a quarterback hit in the first three games, then tacked on two more solo tackles in the preseason finale. He should be a lock.

3.Luke Grimm, WR

Chargers fans did not know what to expect from the undrafted rookie, but he exceeded expectations this preseason. Grimm got off to a slow start, but he returned a punt for a touchdown last week and tacked on a receiving touchdown this week. There may not be room for him, but he'll be tough to leave off the 53-man roster.

Losers

1. Benjamin St-Juste, CB

St-Juste was brought in this offseason with the understanding that he would bolster the Chargers' secondary. However, through the preseason, it is clear that this may not be the case. He could easily be a cut candidate after a poor preseason showing, encapsulated by this low-light.

2. Nyhiem Miller-Hines, RB

Miller-Hines was an emergency signing when Najee Harris went down, but after two muffed punts and unremarkable offensive production, it's clear he has no space in the running back room. With Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins, even Rocket Sanders, all outperforming him, his time in LA is likely done.

3. Trikweze Bridges, CB

Bridges, much like St-Juste, struggled to keep wide receivers in front of him this preseason. This was both in practices against the Chargers' wideouts, as well as in the preseason games. The seventh-rounder from this year may best be brought back as a practice squad player.
