The LA Chargers are apparently in the mix for star wide receiver Julio Jones, who is most likely not going to be playing for the Atlanta Falcons in 2021. While there have been no reports of the Chargers reaching out to Atlanta, any team that is capable of adding Jones must at least inquire about the situation.
The Chargers are more than capable of adding Jones. They have plenty of cap space not just for 2021 but in the following years to take on his salary this year without impeding the next two years. Quite frankly, it is a no-brainer.
It would be shocking if Jones does not get traded this offseason. Not only does his relationship with the Falcons not seem great, but the Falcons desperately need to shave money off the salary cap as they cannot even sign their entire rookie class.
Jones is certainly going to have a say in where he goes but he does not have full control as he does not have a no-trade clause. He could go to any one of the potential fits and he has no say in the matter.
Out of all the potential fits, the LA Chargers are by far the best destination.
There are several other teams that seem just as likely as the Chargers to make a move for Jones. I would say that the Chargers, Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans are the four teams to watch. It feels like Jones will be on one of those teams in 2021.
Jones apparently “has his eyes” on both the Tennesee Titans and New England Patriots, but again, he does not get the final say and we know he would still be just as happy to be catching passing from Justin Herbert in beautiful sunny Southern California.
Let’s break down why the LA Chargers are the best fit for a Julio Jones trade by dissecting the flaws with him going to any of the other listed teams.
