2. Blake Bell

The LA Chargers would get more of a pass-blocking presence with Blake Bell

This one is interesting as you don’t normally associate tight ends with pass-blocking because when they are in the game on passing downs they often are passing targets. However, when Bell was pass-blocking in 2021, he was fantastic.

In fact, according to PFF, he was the best. Bell received the best pass-blocking grade of any tight end in the NFL in 2020 and while he is not as great as Lewis and Green in run-blocking, he is no slouch either.

Having that added dynamic in the tight end room is great. Hunter Henry is a good blocker but he is not going to block much on passing downs and Donald Parham is not going to be blocking much at all, but especially on passing downs.

Having Bell in the tight end room can allow the Chargers to really go heavy in the red zone while keeping the integrity of the pocket. This would open the door for the team to go with three tight ends more often and Bell would be great as a pass-blocker in designed rollouts in those situations.

Justin Herbert was really good when he would roll out of the pocket and extend plays and the LA Chargers did not call enough designed rollouts for him last season.
