LA Chargers: Way-too-early AFC West standings prediction
By Jason Reed
AFC West standings prediction: #3 LA Chargers
- Record: 8-8
The 2020 LA Chargers just feel like an 8-8 team to me. That is seemingly how everyone else feels about the Bolts as well, as ESPN’s FPI projected the Chargers to win 7.7 games in 2020, The Action Network has their over/under win total at eight games for 2020 and Mike Clay’s yearly projections have the Chargers winning 7.9 games in 2020.
Everything screams 8-8 and I think that is exactly where the Chargers are going to end up in 2020. I do think that 10-6 is the absolute ceiling of this team, although I would be rather shocked if the Bolts finished with double-digit wins.
I see the team realistically finishing anywhere from 6-10 to 9-7, none of that would surprise me. A .500 record feels right.
The team to play the Saints, Bucs and Bills all on the road, which is going to be an issue for a team that historically does not do well traveling east. The Chiefs and Broncos both present challenges as well and I think the Chargers only win one of those four games, against the Broncos.

I know we want to be optimistic but the Chiefs have dominated the Chargers in recent years.
They will probably surprise us and win some games that we did not expect them to win but they absolutely will drop the ball at least once, as every team has that one disappointing loss. My early prediction is against the Miami Dolphins on the road. Miami is better than last year and the Chargers notoriously play poorly in Miami.
I know this might sound pessimistic and Charger fans like reading positive things about the team, I just think that an 8-8 record is what we are going to get in 2020.
