The Chargers Priorities Before Vincent Jackson

Let’s get our priorities straightened out a little bit. Just like the rest of you, I would hate to see Vincent Jackson wearing another jersey, BUT he is not our biggest priority this offseason. We have a lot of huge holes that we need to fill and if VJ eats up all of our salary cap space with his contract, then how are we going to walk onto the field with a swiss cheese team?

Priority number 1 on offense is to protect our MVP Philip Rivers! Nick Hardwick and Jared Gaither are  free agents and we need to bring both of them back. Do we really want to have Tyronne Green as the starting left guard also? We have to give Philip time to throw the rock. If Philip is running for his life behind the line of scrimmage, how is VJ going to be able to help out? Give Philip some time to throw the football and he will be able to find an open receiver.

After we get the offensive line secure, we need to find impact players on defense. We need to be able to get the defense off of the field on 3rd down and we have to be able to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks. We need to force turnovers. We need a pass rusher and a safety and some defensive line depth. There are a lot of holes to fill on the defensive side of the ball and they all need to be addressed.

VJ is great, BUT he is not the answer to some of the issues that we have. The offense has never been an issue on this team, even when VJ was not playing a couple of seasons ago. We would still be able to move the ball down the field with a receiver like Reggie Wayne or Brandon Lloyd as the number 1. Malcom Floyd, Antonio Gates and Ryan Mathews can all make things happen on the offense and we have one of the best quarterbacks in the league, the offense will be fine.

If we sign Mario Williams and let VJ walk, would you still be mad? After writing this far into this post, I realized that the only pass rusher that I want in free agency is Mario and everyone else looks like TURDS! Probably better than our turds, but turds nonetheless. I will still stick to those list of priorities before VJ, but we cannot lose him and do nothing else in free agency.
