Off the opening drive, Kyle Orton marched his team down the field on the Chargers defense with a mixture of play action plays and ended it with a Knowshon Moreno run up the middle for the TD. Every play on that drive was 8 yards or more except for the TD run. It was the first TD in the first quarter by the Broncos on the road. Broncos 7 – Chargers 0

Chargers response: 3 and out! Time for the punt (holding our breath)… we get it off and the crowd cheers with excitement and sarcasm!!

Defense holds the Broncos on a 3 and out. Time for the Bolts to respond! Chargers get a big run by Mike Tolbert on second and long and the big play was a FAKE PUNT pass from Mike Scifres to Mike Tolbert. Rivers gets the extra opportunities  on offense and finds Malcom Floyd for the 6 yard score to tie it up. Chargers 7 – Broncos 7

The Broncos take over and look like they are putting together another drive. They hold onto the ball into the second quarter. Then a couple of minutes into the second quarter, Shaun Phillips pressured Orton into a quick pass which was intercepted by Antoine Cason. The Bolts take it and there drive ends with a missed 52 yard FG by Nate Kaeding. The Bolts attempted a gadget play on the drive with Patrick Crayton trying to hit Sproles down the right sideline with a pass.

Shaun Phillips ends Denver’s next drive with a huge sack of Orton and forced the Broncos to punt. Patrick Crayton dominates the next drive making 2 big catches on the play. Crayton caught a long pass down the left side and carried the safety a few yards with his stiff arm. Mike Tolbert completed the drive with hard running up the middle for the TD.  Tempers flared on the drive with some extra pushing by defensive lineman Vickerson on Marcus McNeill. Chargers 14 – Denver 7

The Broncos take over and are stopped 3 and out on the drive with Shaun Phillips playing like a mad man. He chased Kyle Orton all over the field and tackled him on one and sacked him on another play. Denver defense then responds with a sack and Champ Bailey picks off Rivers at the 15 yard line.

After a 3 and out, the Bolts take over and on the Bolts score on a couple of passes. A quick check down to Tolbert for a first down. Then on a screen pass over to Crayton, Crayton dips under the tackle of Brian Dawkins and takes it to the house for the score. Crayton looks like he injured his left wrist on the score, yet another option in the passing game going down. Chargers 21 – Broncos 7

The Broncos tried to get a score to end the half and were stalled by the Chargers defense again. Cam Thomas got his first sack of the season to end the drive. Bolts take a knee and that’s the half. Chargers 21 – Broncos 7

HALF TIME

Bolts take over to start the half, after a couple of runs by Tolbert and Sproles, Rivers finds Sproles on a 3rd down pass and he brings it all the way to the house for 50+ yards!!! Tolbert added another fumble on the drive, but we luckily were able to recover. Chargers 28 – Broncos 7

After trading a couple of possessions, Norv Turner decides to run the ball down the throats of the Broncos with the Tractor Tolbert. Chomping up yards and the clock, Tolbert chewed up the Broncos by gaining 3 and 4 yards on each play. Rivers mixed in a 7 yard run in between where he dove for the first down. The crowd then broke out with the chant of “MVP – MVP – MVP!!!” The drive was finished with a pass to Hester in the flat for the score. Chargers 35 – Broncos 7

After trading a couple of possessions, the Broncos are in desperation mode and run the hurry up offense. A couple of rushes with Knowshon Moreno and some passes move them down the field. Orton throws a desperation ball up for grabs in the end zone and Brandon Lloyd jumped up and made the acrobatic grab for the TD. Broncos 14 – Chargers 35

The Bolts then just kept running the clock out with the running game. The defense held tight against Orton and finished with 5 sacks in the game. Larry English added a sack on the Broncos last drive. A few kneel downs by Philip Rivers and it brings the Chargers back to .500 with a 5-5 record.

The offense finished the game with another 400+ yards and the Chargers defense kept the Orton and the Denver offense off balance with the blitzes. Another impressive victory for the Chargers and the Bolts look to ride out the hot streak into Indianapolis next week on Sunday Night Football! The Chargers are now tied for second place with the Oakland Raiders and 1 game out of first place and breathing down the necks of the Kansas City Chiefs!!! LETS GO BOLTS!!!!
