Chargers Going Hollywood?

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

The San Diego Chargers have signed a deal with the Wasserman Media Group to market the team in Los Angeles and Orange counties, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The annual whispers of a team moving to the NFL franchise vacuum known as Los Angeles are slowly turning into roars.
On the face of it, the deal makes complete sense. Going on fifteen years since the Rams and Raiders bailed, Los Angeles is a huge football market that needs to be tapped. Making the Chargers a total southern California presence is a phenomenal and quite lucrative opportunity.
However, when you look at the [...]

AJ Smith Tones It Down

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Chargers | COMMENTS: None Yet

After AJ Smith’s apparent mockery of LT’s statement, the Chargers GM is offering a mea culpa of sorts.
From Chargers.com
“It was important to me that L.T. know exactly what happened.”
“I just answered a question and unfortunately my response was inappropriate.”
“After reading my response to the question, I can see why it was interpreted the way it was.
“I absolutely meant no disrespect toward L.T… none. I have the utmost respect for him on two fronts, as a player and as a person.”
Saying all the right things. Looks like there are no hard feeling. But look what the Chargers.com report goes on to [...]

LT vs A.J. And Charger Fans Lose

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Links | COMMENTS: None Yet

I assume most rumors start out of thin air, maybe from a bored beat writer or (these days) an inept blogger talking out of their respective backside. Maybe there are shreds of truth from a lowly assistant or disgruntled back up. A pent-up starter, off-the-record coach, over zealous front office spin-doctor… doesn’t matter.
For whatever reason all eyes are on former infallible running back LaDainian Tomlinson and a possible banishment or willful exodus from America’s Finest City.
In an apparent effort to quell any notion of jumping ship, Tomlinson posted the following on his personal website:
I have been getting a lot of [...]

Bolt Beat BS’n

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Links | COMMENTS: None Yet

As with every off-season, bring on the personnel changes.
According to online reports (here and here), the following coaches are gone or will be gone before the season starts:
Wayne Nunnely – Defensive line
Bill Bradley – Secondary
Clancy Barone – Tight ends
Jack Henry – offensive line
Kevin Ross – Assistant secondary & Quality Control
Meanwhile, the Bolts added these Ron Rivera favorites…
Don Johnson – Defensive line
Steve Wilks – Secondary
…and as your new Assistant Secondary Coach, former star corner, Cris Dishman.
Meanwhile, former Chargers coach Al Saunders might be coming back to the AFC and join the Silver & Black. Wonder if Al Davis might give John [...]

All They Needed Was A Quarter Back

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Chargers | COMMENTS: None Yet

I wonder if the Chargers will contact the NFL Rules Committee and install a Mulligan-style out in case your offense vanishes for an entire quarter. Or maybe they can have five periods and only use the best four.
Oh what the Bolts would do if they could get the third quarter back. It’s as if all the late season playoff steam evaporated in the cold Pittsburgh air after halftime.
Three reasons why the Bolts lost:
1) MIA LT- Darren Sproles is a tough guy, but he was no match against the best defense in the league. Tomlinson was absent from the playoffs, again, [...]

Chargers Win An Instant Classic

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Gameday | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Darren Sproles and Mike Scifres won’t need to buy a drink in San Diego. Ever.
The Bolts gave the ball to Sproles, all 5’6” of him, and the guy ran past the Colts and led the way right to either Nashville or Pittsburgh. 328 total yards in a variety of roles. Fitting he took the rock into the endzone to seal the deal.
Scifres is a stud. I can’t punt that well in Madden 09. Never thought I would praise a punter, but he kept the Colts at bay all night.
Rivers to Gates was radically redundant and seemingly effortless.
Defense was stellar. They [...]

Tomlinson Will Start

AUTHOR: Zach | IN: Breaking News, Gameday | COMMENTS: None Yet

Reports exploded today about the groin injury to LaDainian Tomlinson.
ESPN.com had the following:
…Tomlinson had a detached tendon that connects one of his adductor (groin) muscles to his pubic bone…
We’ll see how long he can last on the field.
Darren Sproles could have a big day.
