Chargers LT Rashawn Slater and RT Joe Alt both spoke to the media on Tuesday. Both suffered season-ending injuries in 2025 and have spent most of the offseason process rehabbing. Slater ruptured his patellar tendon last August while Alt reinjured his ankle vs. the Tennessee Titans in November.

Earlier this offseason, HC Jim Harbaugh provided a positive update on how Slater's rehab process was going at The Bolt. Slater worked at the team facility this offseason instead of mostly working in Dallas as per usual. Last week, Harbaugh said "it looks that way" when he was asked if both of the Chargers' star tackles would be ready for training camp.

Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt's respective recoveries continue to trend in a positive direction for the Chargers.

Slater was asked if he would be ready for training camp in July. He confirmed that he expects to be medically cleared within the next few weeks. That could come with some limitations placed on him in practices as he works his way back in, but it seems like he will be able to participate in pads.

Alt largely echoed the same sentiments as Slater when it came to his own availability for training camp. He said he doesn't expect his availability for camp to be a problem either.

The Chargers were 32nd in pass block win rate last year and 31st in run block win rate. Yet the Chargers offense also statistically ranked fifth in the league in EPA when Herbert and Alt shared the field together. It cannot be overstated just how much the impact of the tackles returning would overshadow some of the question marks on the rest of the line.

There are still questions about the Chargers' free agent guard strategy in regards to how they went about filling the LG and RG spots. But the best possible way to boost Strange at right guard and whoever wins the left guard competition is by having elite tackles next to them. Slater and Alt being medically cleared before July would be a huge step towards that eventual reality.

Both tackles were highly complimentary of OC Mike McDaniel and new OL coach Butch Barry. Slater praised the effort and intensity of McDaniel's outside zone scheme. He compared practices to his rookie season. Alt also had praise for Barry specifically.

There are still question marks as to how effective the Chargers' offensive line will be as a whole. But getting Alt and Slater back would be a big step in the right direction for where this team eventually wants to be.
