5 teams that could actually sign Chargers legend Philip Rivers in 2023

3. Washington Commanders
As it stands right now, it looks like the Washington Commanders are going to roll with Sam Howell as the starting quarterback in 2023. The future will decide whether or not that is a good decision but it seems increasingly likely that the Commanders will regret going all-in on Howell.
While they were not spectacular in 2022, the Commanders are a team with talent that could make a move if they had someone talented under center. There is undeniable talent on the defensive side of the ball and there are some game-changers on offense that could really benefit from a veteran quarterback.
The Commanders had the record that they had last season because of their quarterback situation and it does not appear that the 2023 season is going to be any better. If it blows up in their face quickly then they might just wave the white flag and tank for a top pick for a chance at a QB in 2024.
However, if the team shows signs of potential (similar to the Jets last season) then there Rivers becomes one of the first names to come to mind. He won't start the season in Washington but he very well could end it there if the chips fall in the right way.
Rivers has ties to the Commanders as well. Rivera coached on the Chargers' staff for four years from 2007 through 2010, giving him a direct connection to Rivers' phone line.
